A wild snake “begged” me for water. When animal control realized why, they said, “You were lucky!”

A familiar place, but a new experience

Jake often visited the lake to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was one of his favorite places, a quiet place where he could relax, fish, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

He usually spent hours undisturbed at the lake. He had seen animals in the area before—birds, fish, and the occasional frog—but never a snake that came so close.

“I’ve never seen one come this close,” Jake commented, looking at the snake with a mixture of confusion and concern.

Mark nodded, his gaze still fixed on the snake. “That’s not typical behavior for snakes around here. Something’s definitely wrong.”

The once peaceful surroundings now felt different. The tranquility of the lake seemed disturbed by the snake’s presence. The serenity Jake had come to expect from his visits was now marked by uncertainty.

It was sweltering outside when I saw a large black snake approaching me. Instead of becoming aggressive, it simply stood still and raised its head… almost as if begging.

Something inside me told me to help, so I filled a glass with water and slowly set it down. To my horror, the snake drank from the glass.

I thought it was a rare, peaceful moment—until animal control arrived. They took one look and said, “You got lucky.”

Caution and safety first
. Mark approached the situation calmly but seriously. He suggested taking a step back and giving the snake some space. “Jake, let’s back up a bit,” Mark said in a calm, collected voice.

Jake hesitated, still unsure of the snake’s intentions. “It’s not attacking,” Jake stated.

Mark stood his ground. “It doesn’t matter. Snakes can be unpredictable. It’s best to give them space and stay safe.”

Despite his curiosity, Jake followed Mark’s advice and walked away. Both remained standing at a safe distance, watching the snake and waiting to see how the situation would develop. At this point, it was clear that caution was the wisest course of action.

A moment of excitement and curiosity

Jake was curious and uncomfortable at the same time. He’d never experienced anything like this before. “You sound like my mother,” he joked to lighten the mood, but Mark didn’t seem to share his sense of humor.

“This is serious,” replied Mark, still watching the snake’s every move.

Jake’s wonder and curiosity battled with the growing tension in the air. Why was the snake behaving like that? What had brought it so close to a human? He continued to watch it, questions racing through his mind.
