Garlic in the Oven: A Traditional Comfort Remedy for Ear Discomfort

Introduction

For generations, home remedies have played a role in easing everyday discomforts, especially before modern medicine was widely accessible. One such time-honored practice involves gently baked garlic, traditionally used as a comfort measure for ear discomfort. While not a replacement for medical treatment, this remedy is still remembered and used today for its simplicity and the natural properties associated with garlic.

Ingredients:

1–2 fresh garlic cloves (unpeeled)

A small piece of clean cotton or gauze

Olive oil (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Place the unpeeled garlic clove on a small baking tray or wrap it lightly in foil.

Bake for 10–15 minutes, until the garlic is warm and slightly soft—not hot.

Allow the garlic to cool until it is comfortably warm to the touch.

Wrap the clove in clean cotton or gauze.

Gently place it at the outer opening of the ear (do not insert it into the ear canal).

Rest for 10–15 minutes, then remove.

⚠️ Important: This remedy should never be used on children without professional guidance, and nothing should be inserted into the ear canal.
