Introduction
My grandma used to prepare these soft, golden honey butter buns in huge batches for our local community gatherings. The aroma alone could pull neighbors out of their homes, and the taste became a tradition everyone looked forward to. Now, I’m keeping that tradition alive—one warm tray at a time. These buns are simple, comforting, and perfect for feeding a crowd or creating memories at your own table.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk (not hot)
3 tbsp granulated sugar
4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 tsp salt
For the Honey Butter Glaze:
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 tbsp honey
½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
Activate the Yeast:
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it rest for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
Make the Dough:
Add the softened butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well. Gradually stir in the flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead:
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Tip: The dough should be slightly tacky but not sticky.
First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Buns:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12–15 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
Second Rise:
Cover the shaped buns and allow them to rise for 25–35 minutes.
Bake:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 18–22 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Glaze:
Mix melted butter, honey, and vanilla. Brush the warm buns generously with the honey butter glaze.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.
Pair with soups, stews, breakfast spreads, or enjoy with tea.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
To reheat, warm in the oven for 3–5 minutes or microwave for 10–15 seconds.
These freeze well—wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months.
